As we begin to convert all of our content to high-definition, with games getting more graphic detailed and larger in size, and with digital cameras getting more detailed with clarity our needs for storage space is increasing. The need for storage space is growing at an exponential rate, I mean look at how DVD was converted overnight from 4-8GB to Blu-ray which range from 17GB to 30GB in size.
The need for storage space in our home computers have been on par with storage manufactures producing and bringing to market drives that are capable of meeting our needs. However the notebook market has been a different story, up until now.
Western Digital today unveiled the world's first 1TB mobile hard drive in 2.5" size. The new WD Scorpi Blue hard drives have 333GB platters and will be available in 1TB and 750GB capacities and both will features a 8MB buffer and 5,200 RPM speed.
"The convergence of the growing mobile computing and digital media trends produces demand for desktop-like capacities in portable devices. Our new WD Scorpio Blue drives enable people to take even more of their digital collections with them wherever they go and, realizing the value of their data, back up their notebooks on their My Passport drives" said Jim Morris, senior vice president and general manager of client systems at WD.
The WD Scorpio Blue 750 GB drives (model WD7500KEVT) is being sold for $189 and the 1 TB capacity (model WD10TEVT) drive is being sold for $249. Both come with a three-year warranty from WD.
