Apple customers lined up in the rain at Apple's flagship New York Fifth Avenue store in NYC this morning hoping to get a new iPhone 3G S. While the line hasn't been long as the previous iPhone 3G launch, the lines are still very long with several hundreds of people.
One of the reasons why the lines may not be long as before is because this isn't exactly a new product, it's an improvement to an existing product that everyone already has. It may be true that a lot of 3G owners decided not to trade up (although the screaming from them about not getting the lowest price has been horrendous) most people pre-ordered the 3Gs starting 10 days ago. Apple promised delivery today up until a couple of days ago. When the 3G was launched, it had to be activated in-store. This time, Apple and AT&T have made the process much more orderly by allowing early ordering and remote activation. I haven't decided whether to buy the 3Gs. I'd rather spend some time with it and see if it captivates me. But I damn sure wouldn't stand in line to buy something that can be brought to my door for no extra charge.
