Sky News has joined forces with Microsoft in order to deliver television content to broadband-enabled Xbox's. The new 'Sky Player' will be coming to the Xbox this fall which will allow subscribers to access TV channels and on-demand content.
If users aren't interested in a subscription package, they can opt to do pay-per-view content and only pay for shows as they want to watch them giving flexibility to the consumer.
Pricing information is not yet known. Sony and Nintendo have already setup their consoles with similar arrangements that allows their console owners to watch content.
This news comes at a time when the Xbox 360 saw a record growth in 2009 and Microsoft announced that the Xbox 360 sales hit 30 million globally. Growth in 2009 was up 28 percent over the previous year, according to Microsoft.
In addition to record Xbox 360 sales, the Xbox LIVE community continues to grow at a rapid pace. Since the launch of the New Xbox Experience in November of 2008, Microsoft has recorded a 136% increase in new members, TV and movie downloads and more than a doubled, and purchase of games, Game Addons have increased by 70%.
I'm sure the new television content on the Xbox will be more than welcomed in the community, especially since Sony and Nintendo has had it for a while now.
