Google today announced its first Google PowerMeter partners, all of them which are joining to help their customers save on energy costs. Tech Fragments announced Google PowerMeter back in February of this year as a new way that Google wants to help consumers lower their energy consumption. The Google PowerMeter software is fed from your utility company's and in return Google provides graphs of your energy usage and where you can save money on your energy bills.
The very first partners to join Google with the efforts are;
As you can see from the list, these companies are located all of the world. Some of them are very large and some are very small. Like Google said in its blog, "They all have one thing in common" and that's to help customers save energy and money.
Google has provided a screenshot of what the software currently looks like. It looks like it could be a beneficial way of tracking how much energy you use during any part of the day. By knowing this information, you can figure out what are your major energy consumers in the household - we probably already know A/C. However, what we can use the graphs for is to see how adjusting your A/C up or down can drastically effect your energy consumption and ultimately your energy bill.
If you're like me, I don't have solar blinds or a wind farm in the backyard to help keep my energy costs down. I, like many others out there, are seeking for other ways to save energy and Google PowerMeter may just be the answer.
I think the idea behind this is fantastic, I just only hope my energy company jumps on board as well!
