Google Docs, the popular online way to create and store word processing and presentation documents, has unveiled a privacy vulnerability in the service that allowed inappropriate shared access to documents.
"We've identified and fixed a bug which may have caused you to share some of your documents without your knowledge. This inadvertent sharing was limited to people with whom you, or a collaborator with sharing rights, had previously shared a document" the search engine giant said. The issue only occurred if you, or a collaborator with sharing rights, selected multiple documents and presentations from the documents list and changed the sharing permissions. This issue affected documents and presentations, but not spreadsheets."
Google has sent out notifications to all of the customers that were affected and according to them, only 0.05% of a percent of the documents had the issue.
If cloud computing issues like these and others that we have seen as of late continue to take place, and they probably will as we are only human, then cloud computing might have a slower start than originally anticipated. I think consumers are looking for the big giants like Google, to win them over to cloud computing and so far - they've done a pretty good job but they need to do everything possible to keep problems like these at bay.
I love having a copy of all
By gtpeachI love having a copy of all my pictures and videos and non-critical docs in the cloud (MS Sky Drive) but am waiting a bit before I put financial statements out there!
