Google, without any announcement, is now redirecting iPhone users away from the iPhone friendly iGoogle page to a unified version instead. iPhone users who visited Google from their phone was presented with special version of iGoogle specifically made for the iPhone. Users have had this feature for a year now, since Google's launch of the new page in January of 2008.
Why change it now? It could be a cost savings measure, less special version pages can translate into some cost savings. Just how much would it cost to automate an iPhone specific page at Google? It couldn't cost too much to produce an automated page such as iGoogle. It could also be a big move to position their android based phones to have an optimized page and leaving the iPhone out in the rain. If I were a betting man, I would say its the latter.
Either way you look at the problem, the iPhone Google page is gone. Will it ever return?
It really sounds like Google
By James AndersonIt really sounds like Google taking a jab at Apple if you ask me.
