Circuit City Closure in the U.S. Update

When you go to the Circuit City web site now, you are redirected to a closure message that states; "Circuit City would like to thank all of the customers who have shoppednwith us over the past 60 years. Unfortunately, we announced on Januaryn16, 2009, that we are going out of business". The message also specifies that they are not closing their Canadian operation, only the U.S. operation of Circuit City; "No, our Canadian operations will continue. They are not affected bynthe liquidation of Circuit City's U.S. operations. The Canadiannoperations employ approximately 3,000 associates."

They have stated that Circuit City in the US employs approximately 34,000 associates and all of these would be loosing their jobs. They also said that anyone with extended warranty's would still be covered since their warranty's are ran under a different third-party company. "Currently, all Circuit City Advantage Protection Plans are fully backed by the Assurant Solutions companies. Assurant Solutions operates as Federal Warranty Service Corporation, Sureway, Inc., and United Service Protection, Inc. Assurant Solutions is part of Assurant, Inc. (NYSE: AIZ), and its extended service contacts are backed by an Assurant insurance subsidiary rated A "Excellent" by A.M. Best Co."

Circuit City will be liquidating all of their US stores as part of the bankruptcy.
