Windows 7 Beta 1 Officially Online Again

Thursday, we posted details on how to get the much anticipated Windows 7 Beta 1 release from Microsoft. Today, it actually appears that Microsoft has made the beta of Windows 7 available again on its web site. Just before Windows 7 was to go live on Friday, Microsoft's servers were getting pounded with traffic from all around the world. The infrastructure was not in place to handle this enormous amount of traffic that they did not suspect. This is clearly yet another reason why Microsoft should have distributed it via a Torrent instead, allowing users around the world to help share the load.

Tech Fragments believes just as many other analysts, that Microsoft purposely leaked the Windows 7 beta earlier on. One of the reasons for the leak was probably to keep the load down as much as possible and yet another is quite obvious, the marketing aspect. "Due to an enormous surge in demand, the download experience was not ideal so we listened and took the necessary steps to ensure a good experience. We have clearly heard that many of you want to check out the Windows 7 Beta and, as a result, we have decided remove the initial 2.5 million limit on the public beta for the next two weeks (thru January 24th). During that time you will have access to the beta even if the download number exceeds the 2.5 million unit limit." stated Microsoft in the Windows Blog.
