According to a report from a Japan newspaper, Toyota is working on a new solar-powered hybrid electric car that uses energy from the sun to power the car. The solar energy could be used to power the dashboard, radio, wipers, and other low powered electronics.
Mid-2008 there were reports that Toyota had planned to put solar panels on the roof of the Prius to make it more efficient. Another interesting note around solar panels is Toyota's plant in central Japan which produces its own electricity by solar panels.
Toyota has also announced a new relationship with Sanya and Panasonic to supply the company with batteries for their hybrid vehicles. Yet another interesting fact is that Panasonic is acquiring Sanyo which is the leader in solar technology.
Could we see plans this year on Toyota's next generation hybrid vehicle?
