Electronic Arts, the largest game publisher, has announced that they have joined forces with Valve's digital distribution platform Steam, to bring all of the latest and greatest titles to the hands of gamers digitally. Such titles will include, Spore, Need For Speed Undercover, Mass Effect, and Warhammer Online. Spore will also be DRM free!
Next month, EA will release Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, Mirror's Edge and Dead Space to Steam. "We are pleased to extend our holiday titles to gamers worldwide via Steam -- a revolutionary technology that is one of the game industry's most successful digital distribution services," added EA COO John Pleasants.
Steam is set apart from its peers in terms of functionality primarily by its residency in the system tray, and the desktop tasks that the client software performs to make use of that position. Steam has over 517 games and there are over 16 million active user accounts worldwide.
