VMWare Fusion 3 Released

VMware, Inc. has announced the release of VMware Fusion 3. The latest release of the Windows virtualization software includes over 50 new features, making it easier than ever to run Windows applications on Macs. A built-in Migration Assistant for Windows, lets VMware Fusion 3 users move their entire PCs, including applications, files documents, and settings, to their Macs using an Ethernet cable, FireWire cable, or wirelessly.

Highlights of the new features include support for 4-way SMP to optimize iMac and Mac Pro performance, lower overhead and up to 2X faster resume time for suspended virtual machines. Users can get rid of the Windows start menu and launch Windows apps from an applications menu, even when VMware Fusion is not running. Fusion 3 is optimized for MAC OS X Snow Leopard, leveraging its new 64-bit engine and native support for the 64-bit kernel for better Windows on Mac performance.

VMware Fusion 3 is fully Windows 7 compatible, including Windows Aero and Flip 3D. 3D Graphics support includes OpenGL 2.1 and DirectX 9.0c Shader Model 3 without rebooting.

"I am not a virtualization guru, in fact, I know very little about how it all works, but as an early VMware Fusion 3 user, I don't need to it just works, said Dale Puckett of Brainworks Software.  At work I use a Dell laptop running 64-bit Windows 7. At night and on the weekends, VMware Fusion 3 makes it possible for me to continue my development using my iMac running Windows 7 side-by-side with Snow Leopard.  And as a Microsoft developer, support for features like Windows Aero makes all the difference in the world".

Availability and Pricing: VMware Fusion 3 is available online now and at authorized US retailers for $79.99 and at authorized worldwide retailers starting November 4.
