Somebody at Motorola published detail specifications of the upcoming Droid Android for Verizon a week or so before the official release date. Most of the data has since been taken down, truly masterful PR tease. Previously known was that the Droid is a side slider like the CLIQ, with full QWERTY keyboard tucked beneath its touch display, running Android 2.0 plus EVDO Rev. A for 3G speed.
New info gleaned from the specs leak, if it can be trusted, is that the Droid will be powered by a 550MHz processor, which on first glance is just a slight upgrade up from the 528MHz processors running the current generation Android phones. But this is a Cortex A8 processor, which natively runs at 600 MHz and has been underclocked probably for power saving purposes. However, a third party app could be written to overclock it 800 mhz without too much trouble, and probably will be. Keep in mind that this is a new generation of processor, with an added GPU and 2 signal processors onboard to offload lots of the work.
The screen will be a 3.7 inches WVGA (480 x 854 pixels) with 16:9 aspect ratio. The handset be 2.4 x 4.6 x 0.5 inches, and weigh 6 ounces. Built in camera specs: a 5 megapixels camera with image stabilization, dual LED flash and autofocus capture DVD-quality video of 720 x 480 pixels at 24 fps. The phone will come with a 16GB microSD card, which is quite generous. The web page claims up to 270 hours of standby time and 6 hours, 25 minutes of talk time battery life.
Messaging will have support for Gmail, Exchange, POP3/IMAP, SMS, MMS, IM and visual voicemail and it integrates Google's services like Voice, Maps, Search, Talk, Contacts, Calendar, Gmail and the Android Market.
Color is listed as Licorice w/brown sugar accents- getting hungry yet?
Basically, it looks to be faster than any currently available Android phone, but still doesnt quite top the iPhone in many departments. Still, if you are a Verizon fan, this smartphone could make you pretty happy. But you have to wait a week.
